The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has made a groundbreaking announcement regarding the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Côte d’Ivoire 2023, revealing a substantial 40% increase in the prize money for the upcoming tournament. This significant financial boost sets a new precedent in the history of the championship.
The champion of the highly anticipated TotalEnergies AFCON Côte d’Ivoire 2023 is set to receive a remarkable prize of $7 million, marking a new era in African football competitions. In addition to the champion’s prize, the runner-up of the tournament will now be awarded $4 million. The financial rewards extend to the semi-finalists, who will each receive $2.5 million, and the quarter-finalists, each securing $1.3 million.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe addressed the increase in prize money, highlighting the organization’s efforts to elevate the status of AFCON and its commitment to the development of the sport. “CAF has made significant progress over the past two years in increasing the Prize Money of the AFCON and all its other major competitions,” Dr. Motsepe stated. He emphasized the importance of the prize money in fostering the development of football across Africa and supporting the administrations of member associations.
