The Chief Executive for the Obuasi Municipal Assembly Hon Elijah Adansi-Bonah has handed over 150 metalic dual desks to the Municipal Education Directorate for onward distribution to public schools in the district.
This brings to 500, the number of furniture presented to the Education Directorate after the Assembly in August, 2023 handed over 350 desks to the Ghana Education Service.
The procurement of the desks, which was funded from the Assembly’s share of the Common Fund, was in response to a request made by the district education directorate to the Assembly.
The furniture according to the Mce who spoke to the Information Services Department after the handing over ceremony, was to help solve furniture challenges facing public schools in the Municipality.
He emphasized his commitment to support and promote quality education in the Municipality through provision of educational materials, building of classrooms and provision of furniture to aid teaching and learning in schools
Legacy projects
Hon Adansi-Bonah who became the Mce for Obuasi on 4th May, 2017 revealed that the establishment of the Knust-obuasi campus remains his biggest achievements since becoming Mce for Obuasi.
He stressed that despite its rich mineral wealth and contributions to the economy of Obuasi, Obuasi had no tertiary educational institution. ” I decided to make it a personal project to make sure the Knust-obuasi campus project see the light of day. I am glad to say that the first batch of students and the official commissioning of the project were done in my era”.
The Obuasi MCE also cited the rehabilitation of old classroom blocks and construction of new classroom blocks, which remained a deliberate policy he instituted is something he can be proud of due to its impact.
The Municipal Director of Education George Alfred Koomson expressed gratitude to the Mce and the Assembly for coming to their aid, indicating that the provision of furniture for the schools would go a long way to improve educational outcomes.
He further announced that 7 schools made up of 3 Junior High Schools and 4 Basic Schools would be benefiting for now.
