The Obuasi Municipal Directorate of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) has inaugurated its Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) to ensure peace in the upcoming December 7 general elections in the area.

The thirteen-member committee chaired by Nana Owusu Akyeaw Brempong chief of Bogobiri, has the Police, a representative of the Chief Imam, representatives from the various political parties, Ghana National Federation of the Disability, NCCE, Electoral Commission, Media, youth groups and other stakeholders as members.

Mr Lawrence Nyame, the Municipal Director, NCCE, said as part of their mandate, the IPDC would monitor key threats to violence, including the use of provocative and abusive language by political parties and their members during campaign and declaration of election results.

He added that the committee had the responsibility of ensuring that petty misunderstandings that could result in electoral violence and chaos were resolved amicably.

The Ncce director admonished  them to adhere to the standard of mediation and foster unity among themselves, political parties, and their members.

He again advised the committee members to be politically neutral before and during the election process.
